Does anyone breed these?

runswithturtles Nov 16, 2009 12:31 AM

Does anyone breed L. G. niteda or L. G. conjuncta?
Also I am interested in other neat types of getulus that are not so common in the hobby. Would love to see some pics of these or other pure form or hybrid types especially those from Arizona. Thanks Eric

These are some '08 nitida phase that "Boneyard" bred last year. I know of several other people who breed nitida and conjuncta as well, I think Shannon Brown also still breeds them. There was a very recent post of someone showing their "conjuncta" phase here just a short while ago too.

When I was at the Repticon show in Orlando recently, I saw some on a table there too. The guy had a nitida marked MBK, and I said,...."uh, hey guy, what's with the nitida stripe on this so-called "MBK"??. He quickly thanked me and remarked it, and put in with the other nitida/conjuncta's he had on the other table he had..LOL!

Nice stuff Boneyard!

I've always liked those forms of Cal. King.

When I posted that pic, I made sure to mention that they were yours, so I hope that was okay with you.

best regards, ~Doug

Thanks those look great! I am looking to get more getulus and want to get to know who has them and so on. I used to breed snakes and then stopped for a while. I bred turtles for a very long time but due to laws want to go back to snakes.

Here's a few pics of one of the conjuncta phase I got from Shannon Brown...this and the female I have are both awesome snakes.

Absolutely!. I figured from your username that you must be very involved with turtles.

Couldn't agree more, snakes are just too amazing to NOT have.

Does anyone know who has real good Mexican black kings? And how about outer banks? Eric

Boneyard Nov 16, 2009 06:54 PM

Tom Stevens from tomssnakes.com has some nice MBKs and Howie Sherman or Charles Shanklin(sp?) have really nice OBKs

I have a 1.2 trio of Outer Banks(sticticeps). I acquired them from Howie Sherman. A few other guys have them too, but they aren't exactly common everyday stuff, if you do some "googling, you can find some sticticeps here and there. But they are often sold out because of their very limited supply. I hope to have some next year hopefully.

I saw some just a while ago on the KS classifieds as well, but I don't think they lasted long.

MBK's are pretty common, and there are plenty of people that have those. I would think you could easily find some right this second on the KS classifieds from the second tab button at the top left corner of this page. And as Boneyard just mentioned, those guys have some nice ones too.

I think Deon Collins from Ft. Lauderdale has some nice MBK's as well. He gave me a nice looking male a few years ago, but I gave it back to him because I had way too many mouths to feed to mess with a lone male, but it was a really nice one I must say.

Do you know where Howie got his OBKs? Was it Fengya?

Howies stuff is a composite of Carl Bartlett's(W/C Dare county), Bob Fengya(W/C), Lloyde Lemke(Ocracoke), and Jim Kane's(Hatteras) lines of sticticeps. Howie captured another one himself many years ago as well that he has as a breeder from Cape Hatteras as well.

Even though there are a few different players that have some now, all of these can surely be traced back to these few same basic lieages, as there has always been an extremely small genepool of sticticeps anyway. And even some of these guys had, or DID have the same exact bloodline(s), or traded a couple to each other, etc....
