Hibernation Question

jepsie2000 Nov 17, 2009 06:18 AM

I have two snakes, one a black pine, the other a bull snake. The BP last ate Oct 22nd, the Bull last ate Sept 9th. Two weeks ago I turned off all lights and heat and covered their cages with a blanket. The BP has hibernated but the Bull keeps moving all around the cage. My question is will the Bull eventually hibernate or end up starving itself? Last year the Bull went 7 weeks without food, but I never turned off the heat/lights. Help please...

How much did you cool them down?

Bigger, meaner, rarer, hot.

I've closed off the heat to a back bedroom and covered the cages with a blanket, it's about 62-64 degrees

In my experience, Bullsnakes have a tendancy to remain active to some degree in hibernation, while Pines sleep like rocks! I always try to hibernate between 48-52 degrees F, and I've often wondered if Bullsnakes have anti-freeze in their blood!
