Brumation Temps......Revisited....

Jlassiter Nov 17, 2009 08:54 PM

I finally got my brumation chamber finished and it is holding 46F and dropping down to 43F at times......
I can certainly adjust the thermostat and get it to hold around 55F after it is full of tubs/snakes.....

I was wondering though, has anyone ever brumated at 46F with no ill effects come 3 months later?

John,

>>I finally got my brumination chamber finished and it is holding 46F and dropping down to 43F at times......

In correspondence with Tim @ Vivid, less than 44F can be lethal for Lmt’s…

>>I was wondering though, has anyone ever bruminated at 46F with no ill effects come 3 months later?

I’ve not tried it after corresponding with Tim…The year before last, I only had a few days with temps below 60F and had three egg clutches (avg = 62-63F). Last year avg temp was 58-59F…Again, two clutches of eggs…

Just my 10 cents worth man…

Later,
Jim.

PS: From correspondence with an old friend, it’s better to keep the males cooler than the females (bottom of the stack in the closet)…

Thanks Jim....I've never really heard the lower limit....and I've been breeding these since 1997...LOL

That is pretty much the same temps I have been successfull with in the past.....55F to 60F.

And that's exactly how I planned on stacking them this year....

Thank you Jim for chiming in on this almost dead subforum.

Ive had them go down to 40 with no problems. Personally I think they could stand 35 or so for a short time with no issues as long as humidity is low and bedding is dry.......Mike

Mike,

OK and thanks...Nice to know that info as well...

How are things up there? I'm getting furloughed at work for one day for three consecutive months (beginning this month)...Which amounts to $118 per period...That's several tanks of gas...

Later,
Jim.

PS: It beats getting laid off...

John,

No worries man...I'm wrapped up in a research project & hope to be finished while the children are down for the winter...

Glad to see that we're running the same experiment at home...Ha! Ha!

Later,
Jim.

Mine rarely see below 65 but sometimes the temps get down to 60 or a little lower.
So far results have been good.

Michelle,

That's good to know as well...So we have a temperature range (low & high) for the brumination U curve...

How's everybody in your zoo? Ha! Ha!

Later,
Jim.
