frequency of pooping/ feeding

gilese6 Nov 17, 2009 09:28 PM

I have a year old bearded dragon. Never owned a lizard before her, and I was just wondering how often should she been pooping? Also, how often would you recommend feeding her crickets and how many should she get at a time?
thanks!

How long is she? And how much does she weigh?

she is 20 inches but she had a small part of her tail amputated when she was a baby. Sorry I don't have a current wait on her.... hope that helps

Perhaps you could post a picture then. It's impossible to offer a good feeding suggestion without knowing if she is over, under or normal weight.

At a year of age till about 14-15 months, I would feed insects once a day and include a large salad all day long for your dragon to enjoy.

How many crickets depends on the dragon, some will eat a few, others will eat dozens. Feed crickets in the morning, all the dragon can eat in about a 5 minute period, then offer the salad and leave it in the cage all day...or the salad can be put in the cage in the afternoon.

Frequency of pooping varies per individual...some poop every day, others every other day, some only once a week, though the volume is much greater.

If you notice your dragon straining to poop and nothing comes out, then you need to get him to a vet, as that is a sure sign of impaction, constipation and/or parasite load.
