quarantine question...

cfr Nov 18, 2009 09:26 AM

I always quarantine my new animals when they come in, but was curious as to the guidelines you guys follow when new animals come in. I keep mine in a separate room for a few weeks and monitor health and feeding. I also treat their caging with a preventive dose of black knight, just in case. How does this compare to what you guys do as far as timeline, etc? Thanks for the input.

I personally recommend at least a month of quarantine, though for boids, three months or more are probably better.

Spraying the cage with Black Knight or Provent a Mite before putting in the new arrival...is a good practice to do. One way to ensure a couple mites on a new snake don't end up exploding in population and attacking the entire collection.

I would always quarantine for a period of no less than 3 months. I know it's a pain but it's a lot better than spreading bugs and disease.
