Building a rack...need supplies; heat tape, rubbermaids, thermometers, etc.

thegeckobarn Sep 18, 2003 09:54 AM

Where can I find all of this stuff at a good price?
And for the rubbermaid boxes, I would like them to be as clear as possible..any idea? Id prefer to buy all of this local, unless someone online has good deals.

Thanx,
Crystal Light

most of my supplies i got at walmart. The heat tape I got at
beanfarm.com That is the only place i've seen it so far.
there is a place in NY http://www.bigappleherp.com/ that sells heat rope that some are trying. I heard its easier but it doesnt cover as much of an area. You can run it up and down the back wall of a unit and tape it in place with electrical tape.
I use flat long heat tape that is 3 inches wide.

You should be able to get everything local except heat tape. I get mine from http://www.beanfarm.com/. I am including a link to a post from rob jenkins. He did a step x step as he built his that was very informative.http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=8724,8724. I also got alot out of the urban gecko's video. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me and I'll help with what I can. Jeremy

The Bean Farm is good; I've gotten a lot of stuff from them, and they're very prompt. If you're looking for fairly clear boxes that aren't too expensive, Iris makes some good ones. Office Depot has some smaller sizes, and Stacks and Stacks carries a lot of different sizes (check out www.stacksandstacks.com). They are a little more than Rubbermaids or Sterlite, but clearer and IMO stronger. I have a mix of Sterlite and Iris in my rack (for snakes, not geckos).
