Multistrata Magic and a Tribute - DUW

Sunherp Nov 19, 2009 12:28 PM

The Spring and Summer of 2008 where magnificent with respect to field herping and producing some wonderful captive animals. As a result of persistent badgering and bragging on the part of Dell and myself about the fantastic season we were having, our good buddy 'Jose Ole' came out to Montana for a few weeks of fun before heading back to the toiling life of a graduate student. I think (hope) ‘Jose Ole’ had a good time out here: we found many milks, caught plenty of trout, and drank gallons of beer (he held his own pretty well for an out-of-stater!). Not only is he a pretty good guy, but his photography skills rock. I’ve saved and compiled a group photographs taken by “burrito boy”, and what follows is a tribute. Some are field photos, while some are captive animals – a few of which now reside in the collections of our fellow forum members. All rights of photograph ownership belong to ‘Jose Ole’.

Since I’ve still only got partial access to my photos, I’ll have to rely on Dell to add some action shots to this post.

Jeepers!, those are some STUNNING specimen's you guy's came up with on your adventure!

He does have "mad-skills" in the photo department.

That must have been an absolute blast!

People here would like me, I could bust their balls more, and we could live happily ever after....But seriuously, how on earth did he get the snakes(babies in particular) to hold still? I take my milks out and they make a break for it, squirm, crawl up my arm, and if they are on a nice white towel like that....[bleep]e all over for general principals. All my pics are either like that or the "quick pic while I open the cage" shot. I practically have to smack em around to get a single good pic! Bad pic intentional this time, lol.

The trick is to put a tiny dark container over them, let them settle down for a few minutes. Then get all the camera settings where you want them BEFORE you slowly lift it up with the camera ALREADY lifted up in position(as to not spook the snake when doing so). Then if all goes well, you typically have a few seconds to take a good shot or two before they decide to BOLT OFF!..LOL!

This has always worked real well for me.

Great photos Jose'. Really sweet Cherry counties, but that second Carbon co. multistrata is the bomb. It's such a good representation of what a wild Pale milksnake can look like, and the habitat is so hard to hunt in w/ much success.

Carbon co. Montana

Jose's big hand corralling a Stillwater co. Pale for a few photos.

With out the hand, and a job well done.

The fishing was fun, and Cole will never let us forget the Rainbow he caught, w/ a cigar going through the whole fight too.

Look forward to having you out again sometime. This rock will be waiting for you.

WOW!, that is some incredible terrain out there man!

Ahh!, so THAT is the famed "PHOTO ROCK"!

I was always wondering where that came from..LOL!

Good depiction of how well the "hand corral" works too!

The 9th one down is smokin. I am digging the lack of color on the head.

When I picked up some l. p. knoblochi that was the trait I looked for.

An all white head on any tricolor would look insane.

Thanks for sharing.
