I finally got my babies.

KWE Nov 24, 2009 01:40 AM

I was hoping they would take after the father in color but they look pretty normal to me, I ended with ten live ones and seven dead. She was pushing out fully developed dead babies without the membrane as if they hatched inside of her and died? They should shed soon so I can get a better look. KB

Is the bottom pic the Sire? If so, isn't he (a really nice) Hypo? In that case, all the babies would be hets.

Good News/Bad News! Let's go bad first: When I first looked, I thought they were alvarezi! The good news: Brazilians change! I've had numerous "cherry picks of the litter" that turned to crap! Also, if they are indeed hets, who cares what they look like!

I'd agree, if that second pic is dad, he looks like a very nice hypo. THat said if mom was not at least het, then all the babies would be hets and all would more or less look like a mix of mom and dad but without dad's hypo influence. Point being whatever color(s) dad would have shown without the hypo genes, those colors will be passed on.

Does happen that some babies will burst the sack and drown inside mom. Sometimes she's good at reviving them by nudging etc. But most times they are simply gone. Celebrate the live ones!!

Several years ago when I acquired the unique male I also acquired a few females to breed to him, I saw him hooked up with both female and they produced for me. The babies I have now are from his offspring back to him, I was hoping they were het for his traits, so I was expecting some cool babies. One thing I did notice was the female that produced these babies started turning the same color as her father but not as extreme and only her back half, when she sheds soon I will take some photos. Also, for some reason I could not view Dave's reply? Thanks. KB

Congratulations on your babies! They are very attractive. So, what's the story on the male??? Do you happen to know his origins? You may be the proud owner of a new hypo line.
