If you go to your photo program (photoshop or whatever), load the picture and under the heading of size set the dimensions to what ever you want so it will fit on the screen. I use 6 inches wide as a rule. The other important dimension is the size in dpi. Idealy for the monitors we use is 72 dpi which I believe is the ideal because of the monitors scan rate.
The bottom line is that the picture will be more convenient to view.
