I have an idea

jayfischerherps Nov 24, 2009 08:20 PM

I hear the rumblings of "lets hit them where it hurts, their wallet".

We talk among each other about a way to stop the madness. Meanwhile thousands of people a day contribute money to the organizations that are trying to put a stop to exotic pet ownership and even pet ownership all together. The average person gives to HSUS thinking it is helping homeless puppies and kittens. The average person gives to the Nature Conservancy without knowing their real agenda. They are using that money questionably as a nonprofit to push their agendas powerfully along.

The average person does not know what is churning below the water!

I think we need to try a different approach, to inform the mass population as much as possible. Put it out there for all to see.
Why not buy billboard space, on major highways in many states. They would put the proverbial fly in the ear of people traveling everyday locally and across the states. Make it publicly known what HSUS and The Nature Conservancy represent and what they are trying to do. It has to be tasteful and non aggressive, representing the average pet owner. I would not stress exotic pets in the ad, start out more general. Strength in numbers! Catch peoples attention, inform them what there money is being used for and maybe slow down the money feeding the monsters.

I have thought of that myself. I agree this needs to be done. The general public needs to be informed of what these groups are really out to do. These groups have aggressive PR campaigns against exotics. They do not tell people that dogs and cays are also on there agenda list.
We can't get enough support from the public for us, or stop the public from supporting these lying sneaky underhanded groups unless we tell them. People will not look this stuff up themselves. You have to bring it to them.

I hoped I would get a little more feedback on the idea. Thank you for the one comment. I don't think billboards cost that much based on how many people see them. It would not be just people that come here, or read dogworld, or caged bird magizines. It would even be people that don't have pets, but still give money to these 501c's that then use the money to pass laws.

Who says we have to represent ourselves as exotic keepers or having any kind of animal interest for that matter. I'm a citizen that's pissed off that I have to work for a living, even at times putting my life on the line, while these jokers get RICH by telling lies. Every buck they earn is a dishonest buck. We should also search the Net for forums for cat and dog ownwers, farmers and ranchers, research labs. Can you think of others? My .002 cents.
