Red Foot shell issue

i hav a friend that has a juvenile red foot and since she got it, it has had a "weird" spot on its plastron. in the last 2 months or so the spot has grown. we are not really sure what it is and was hoping you guys and gals could inform us and tell us how to correct the problem. here is a pic

Hello, its looks like a bacteria or fungus infection commonly called shell rot. If you go on tortoisetrust.org web page they give a detailed list of treatment for it. You must correct the problem of why it got it though(husbandry issue). My guess being its a redfoot is that the substrate is too wet. Moist and wet are not the same. Also there must be a dry area in the enclosure(under the basking lamp?) where the tort can completely dry out. Hope this helps

thats what we figured. we just wanted to get the oppinion of some of the folks on this forum. she will be starting a nolvasan regiment in the near future as well as some husbandry changes. thanks.
