Need some advice on heat source...

Hello everyone!

We're getting ready to move into a new house next week and so I finally get to build a larger snake enclosure. I'm planning on building a cage that will house 6-8 snakes (separate of course). It's basically going to be look like a bookcase with one cage on top of another, it will be 4ft wide and 2ft deep and I think I'm going to make each section 12in tall. What I'm trying to figure out at the moment is how I'm going to heat each section and so I need advice from all of you! I figure these are my options -

Heating Lights - I could put sockets in each section and use heat emitting bulbs, this would be super easy to do. But since most of the snakes that will be living in this need humidity I'm worried about it drying out the cage too much. This also won't provide the snakes with any belly heat which I thought was important for digestion but I know other people who use nothing but lights for heat...

Heating Panels - I've never used these before, I've always used the heating pads that stick to the bottom of the tank. It's my understanding that panels are placed on the roof or on the side of the cage, not on the bottom. How well do they work? I also read on a few different websites that they were a possible fire hazard but no evidence was given for this.

Heating Cables - Again I've never used these before so I don't know anything about them.

Are there any other options? Any certain brands that you recommend?

Thanks!

I didn't realize how expensive the heating panels were, those are probably off the list unless anyone can recommend some that are good quality but not uber expensive which I doubt : )

ive used heat lamps for years but i allways keep a big pool of water that the snake can emerse themselves in which keeps humidty at right levels but dont get to high of watt bulb play around and see what temp and humidty is with diff bulbs
