I can't find Ole

onekgguy May 25, 2003 02:11 PM

My 1 year old male Collared is missing and his mate as well as I miss him. They were sunning themselves yesterday where they always do on the floor by the patio door. I went to put them back and I could not find Ole anywhere. That was yesterday afternoon.

I set up a light about a foot off the ground in hopes that he would come to it to bask under. I also opened all the drapes to help lure him out into the daylight but he still hasn't made an appearance.

My concern is that he managed to shimmy his way into an air vent and is now lost in the ventilation system. I've tried tapping around at the duct work from underneath but I'm not hearing him crawling around.

My question for those who have experienced this problem is do you have any suggestions on what else I might do? Are there types of places Collareds seek out...closets...shoes?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You might try putting some crickets in a cage low enough the collareds could get to it. Maybe leave the lid open & see if you can catch him pigging out. Hope that helps, Kristin

I have a room for them, but I have noticed IF I let them out after 5:00 pm they will crawl into any small space under a rock on the floor or wedge inbetween cinder blocks I have down, and go to sleep, point is, they usually only dissapear from the open around bed time late afternoon, so now I know not to let them run late. I know all of their spots now so I find them right away, but I would say put the whole tank if possible, with his mate on the floor where he was last and see if he don't come out and go to the enclosure, of course if it to big you will have to just use the light thing and see if he comes out ! Hey do what ya have to , because it drives you crazy until there back safe, he'll show up ! :0) Good luck ! Eve

When my old lizard ran away...he was gone for 2 weeks and when we found him he had somehow gotten under the gate and into the front yard and he was in the bushes...so don't worry!!!

Thanks all for your input. Still waiting on this end. I've looked just about everywhere I can think of so now I'll just have to sit back and wait with hopes that he'll come out of hiding if he's able to.
