some interesting scalation

DMong Nov 26, 2009 02:25 PM

This is a natural phenomenon that happens fairly often with snakes body scales, but often goes un-noticed. Check out the way two of her scale rows bifurcate, and split-off into two other separate rows.......weird!

Ok fine just Markus.

The very existence of flamethrowers means that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves..."You know, I really want to set those people over there on fire...but I'm just not close enough to get the job done!

The holes are made from the tip of a hot soldering gun. It makes nice smooth-edged holes, without making a mess like drilling does. It's the ONLY way to fly in my opinion.

Silly me, thought the air holes question had an obvious answer...glad I read your response. I've drilled mine and it IS a messy pain in the arse. It is also possible to shatter the plastic in not really careful.

btw, love that head shot.

Thanks man!,....

Yeah, drilling doesn't cut it at ALL compared to melting the holes. Everything about it is better. The snake can't hurt itself either if it rubs it's nose a bunch as compared to sharp-edged drill holes, and zero cleanup is great as well.

Yeah I expected an obvious answer back myself, but since it was my first time putting holes into a tub, wanted to see how others went about it just to make sure in case there was another way. And I like the melting holes idea alot!!

Good process Markus. I'm trying to remember that no matter how obvious an answer might seem to a lay person, consulting an expert will often bring a suprise and a slap on the forehead...like duh! If there's any doubt, better to ask the "stupid question".

Haha thanks for the support monklet I never cease to learn some little tid bit in this trade, even after years of being a small part of it

...oh yeah, surely didn't mean to assume you are a "lay person"...but in this world I consider myself to be, especially in the company of so many who have been doing this for so many years. Only been keeping for abuot 3 years as an adult but I did used to keep snakes as a youngster though and had my first snake at age 10...so, I guess if I count that it's 43 years )))

Interesting observation Doug, now you'll have me checking my critters out for bifurcating in their scales.

Yeah,....that's why the meristical scale-row counts are done at mid-body ONLY, because elsewhere on the snake, there can often be deviations.

None of my snakes are bifurcating.
I don't allow that kind of behavior in my snake room.
