Knob project

daniel1983 Nov 26, 2009 06:05 PM

I purchased a few kings over the last year and this is one project that I am really looking forward to. I picked these because of their reduced black and high white heads. The babies should be killer when I get to breed them 2 years from now.

Thought I would share a few pictures from cage cleaning today.

Female from Ric Blair

Male from Jonel Lopez.

If any of you all have knobs with reduced patterns, It would be great if you could share. I would like to see how these stack up against others.

I have 1.1 2009 Knobs from Shannon Brown's Candy Cane line....
Both have nice reduced black....
The adult in the pics is a 1998 Ric Blair Knob that I have as well....Pretty classic looking....4.5' and 500 grams.....

Great looking Knobs. That adult female has some nice deep red to her.

A deep red, no black banding, solid white head.....ha ha...It might take 20 years of selective breeding but that would be one smoking snake

I have seen a few references to Shannon's Candy Cane line before, but really wasn't aware of its origins. Do you mind sharing some background info?

My candycane line was a total accident.I was just breeding f2 animals from Philly Zoo line that wheren't related to any other lines in the hibby.Thats the only reason I even had them.My adults are nice but nothing super special but man do they kick out some killer babies.I will be able to breed the babies ( the candy canes) to each other and back to there parents in 2011.I produced one killer female in (08) and one more nice female in (09) and hope to pop out a male next year.
p.s. I use the candycane name becuae it is fitting but they have NO connection at all to Bob Applegates "candycane" pyros.

this is the female from (08).

this is the female I produced this year (09).

this is my adult female San Jaunito locale.

and this is my adult male from San Juanito.

this is a super killer female I have here on loan also.I will see what she throws when bred by my candycane line male.

I think maybe I will try this female as well this year. She is from my aberrant line but she is very clean.

Both are very nice, you should produce some nice orange-red knobs with those two. I was looking at some of Jonels Knobs a few weeks back on his site and was temped!
I'm kind of disappointed that I'm going to have to wait two years to see your hatchlings from those two.lol
Here's some of that orange-red I was telling you about.

Ha ha....ya. I am disappointed in waiting another couple of years too.

The male is an 2008. The female is an 2007.

I guess it will be two years. Ha ha. Kinda new to these guys.

I also have another 2008 female from Jonel. She has some nice thick black bands but her reds are great. Great guy to get snakes from.

Here is an older picture of her:

2007 Female and a 2008 male? They should be ready to go in the spring, I'd give it a try.

Hey Shannon, what happened to the albino cal king that you got from that guy that found it on the road and put it in the sawzall case in the back of his truck? I was wondering if you ever figured out if it was a true wild caught or an escaped captive? I found some post on it in the cal king forum. I think it was back in 2007. Thanks
