Does anybody have any recommendations for tablesaw models?
I got one to replace an older model last year from HDepot. They still carry them by me, it is a Ryobi 10" and sells for $199. I have been using it consistently and had no problems in the past year, very light weight comes with stand and has built many a cages.
Cheers,
Mike.
We have a 12 Ridgid [9 yrs] table saw [belt driven] that is on a stand for our larger projects, it survived working in the desert at 125F temps and still runs great. We also have a portable [disposable 2nd one in 3 years] ryobi from the home depot. Only thing to watch for is ryobi and other portables are direct drive electric motor to the saw blade and if you bind the saw they kick like a mule, the larger belt driven ones will just allow the belt to slip instead of force feeding you a piece of lumber. Both work.

I have had both types kick back, and both hurt if they kick back no question. I will note though that bob is right, the belt drive does allow for some play, my last saw was that type, a Rockwell. As long as you use it right, IE use your head when you use the saw (i forget this sometimes) both types are very safe.
Cheers,
Mike.
Mike, you are correct they are both safe under perfect conditions in useing them, I have never worked in perfect conditions though and to someone not familiar with table saws and blade binding I think the belt driven is much safer, the belt tension can be adjusted on some of the better models and make for less kickback and much safer. Just my 02 on being a carpenter for 30 yrs. Either way be safe.
Cheers,Bob
