jacksons chameleon health HELP PLEASE

ducati1198ss Nov 28, 2009 11:34 AM

Hello I own a 4 year old Jackson's chameleon. I have all the proper lighting and he is always hydrated and misted twic a day. I feed him crickets and at least once a week the crickets are covered in calcium dust. Recently I noticed a dark spot about the size of a dime formed on the side of his body. I was wondering if you might know what it is? Could it be a fungus or something else? Thank You.

It could be an injury, (the colour changing skin will often darken after an injection or burn, etc), fungal or bacterial disease. I would take it to the vet asap. Honestly, every chameleon I've seen brought into the vet clinic has been way past saving. I think it is because they go down hill so fast, and are good at hiding illness/injury from their owners.

After that precaution, on the upside, it is quite possible that it will remain a localized problem and be treated rather well.
