Male or female?

dvsws6 Nov 28, 2009 06:04 PM

I got my rhino iggy when he was about two weeks old. It has been a little over two years now and this thing is growing like a weed! What a great animal. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the sex. I know they are very difficult to sex but lets her what you guys have to say.

The animal is really great and was the pick of the litter. It measures about 29 inches from snout to tip of tail. The cage is 5 feet x 18 x 23. I already feel like its growing too large for the cage! Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

Now thats a nice young rhino. If I was to take a bet I would say female too but really its impossible to tell from that position. So we can take a good gess at its sex we need a clear photo of its vent and legs. I hope the rocks on the back side of the cage are glued together, if they fall they can harm your ig. Also I would not use that substrate, your ig can ingest it and cause damage to its gut or even get a inpaction. If you want to use a natural substrate try a peat and play sand mix. And yes your ig is really in need of a much bigger cage with lots of space to roam, its time for you to go to your DIY store.

I will be changing the substrate and gluing the rocks asap! thank you for the suggestions. The plans have already begun for building a cage for her/him. The iggy does get out a lot though just so its not locked up in the cage all day. My friends think it is hilarious how social it is. It will romp around my room then come up to my friends and i and start climbing on us then fall asleep on me. In the right light with a good camera it has a lot of blues and greens. I will try to take a picture today of the vent area and the back legs. Once again thanks for the advice and comments!

It's likely a female and a very nice one to boot. You do need a much larger permanent enclosure however. Cyclura are one of the most rewarding herps to keep when reared properly. Keep up the good work...

Hey there! Out of curiousity, I was just wondering what the defining characteristics are to make it look like a female? What would the difference be in a male? It is a beautiful animal! I can't wait until mine is that big!
Thanks for all the help!
