Spider Bite

toddbecker Sep 18, 2003 02:43 PM

I have 2.1 albino burms that are all het for granite. Anyway I had them outside and one of my females jumped back and then started dragging the side of her face on the ground. She did this behavior for aproximately a minute or so so I went over to where she was when she jumped back and I found a brown spider about the size of a half dollar. I am uncertain of the type of spider it was. I live in Northern Kentucky. Anyway when I looked at my snake she had a noticeable mark on her face just above the left eye and it looked as if a scale had been rubbed off(simular to a nose rub) that was not there previously. Has anyone alse experienced this accident and do you think it is a life threatening incident or will her own immune system work through this on its own. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You Todd

Well, since I have a bad habit of getting bit by spiders (2 black widows, 1 brown widow, 1 wolf, 2 tarantulas, 1 brown recluse) It helps if you can take the spider and the snake to the vet...or in a humans case, the hospital. A vet could tell you what detrimental effects the bite will have. But to tell you from my point of view. Most spider bites bug the crap out of you but pose no danger of death... otherwise, I wouldn't be typing this.

Thanks for the response. As I figured the snake is doing fine. A few hours after the bit the snake was doing fine and later that evening he ate just fine and seems to be doing just fine. I will monitor him over the next few days and make sure he is ok but i think it just irritated him but he his ok now. Thanks for the advice and the quick response, Todd
