jwilmot Dec 01, 2009 03:05 PM

She shed for us the first time yesterday so I thought it was time to post some pics.
The first is her home till she gets bigger.
I wanted a pic of her in natural sunlight(fortunatly it was warm out today)
I also wanted a flash shot.

She is a purdy lil thang!!!

Have to ask though, you do have the screen top in that tank mostly covered? I'd assume so but never hurts to ask.

Hi Dave,

Some how I knew you would be the one to ask about the top lol.

I have hade it both ways. When I seal about 70% of it the whole encloser gets condensation. I think it is due to me keeping the humidity hight in my house as I also collect cigars.
I am currently keeping her cage at about 6 1/2 feet off the ground (prevents the little ones from messing with her). This is keeping the temp on the hot side about 83 and about 76 on the cool side. I threw in a spare humidity sensor on the cold side without the top being covered and its around 85%. With the top covered it gets closer to 95%. and the temp goes up about 3-4 degree's. Also the shelf above her cage is only gives about 2 inches of room.

I know that as an adult she will not need as much hummidity but she does need more now. Would you say she is fine without it covered or should I sacrifice being able to see in. My goal is whatever is best for her.

I also change out her watter dish dayly and rewet the paper towel in her hide box at the first sign of drying out. Here is a pic of her in her hidebox.

Anyone else who would like to give feed back is more than welcome.

PS Her shed was one solid peice.

Guilty!!

as long as she is shedding fine, your humidity is fine. With your house humidity level higher then a typical dry house you can afford more air exchange while still maintaining decent humidity in the cage. The real problem with screen tops comes when kept in a significantly drier room and the relatively damp air escaping is being replaced with much drier air.

As to the exact number, I don't track actual humidity levels. Don't even have a hygrometer to check. With my dedicated rainbow room the humidity in there is always higher than the rest of the house. I keep the door closed to keep in the heat and humidity. Sheds are what I judge my humidity on. As long as shedding well, not retained, not tattered/brittle, humidity is at an acceptable level.

thanks dave,

glad the setup I have is is fine.

Jen (my wife) and I also picked up a couple of leopard Geckos over the last few months. Pics in the Leopard Geckos forum.

We decided to start breeding them while Amidala grows up to see if the breeding thing is to our likeing. I hope it is as I would love to start breeding BRB's. I may need to get together with you to get a male in 3 or so years as there is not much of a local market here, only one breeder I know of.

Looking forward to posting more in the future.
