BLUE TREES

BRICKZ Dec 01, 2009 04:24 PM

IS THERE ANY REPUTABLE BREEDERS I CAN OBTAIN CB BLUE TREE MONITORS FROM? I SEE POST ON THE CLASSIFIEDS FROM TIME TO TIME BUT THEY ARE FROM "JOE" LOCATION "USA" WANTING ME TO JUST PAY WITH CREDIT CARD, AND I'M NOT TALKING POCKET CHANGE! ANY INFO WOULD HELP. A WAITING LIST IS FINE... AS LONG AS ITS SOMEONE I CAN TRUST!

I do not believe that there is anyone producing them, and if there were, nothing has been mentioned yet. I've seen plenty of people with these animals in pairs and such, but so far,no successful hatchings.

SOMEONE HAS PRODUCED THEM OR SOMEBODY IS LYING!

Nate83 Dec 01, 2009 07:02 PM

Somebody's lying..... Yes there are people that have bred them. But it is not likely that the animals you see advertised as C.B. are actually captive bred. I would think there'd be a nice waiting list for captive bred prasinus and macrei.

I AM SURE THERE IS PEOPLE PASSING OFF WC AS CB, THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING FOR HELP! I WOULDN'T EVEN MIND PURCHASING WC SUB ADULTS IF IT WAS FROM A RESPECTED DEALER. THANKS FOR YOUR REPLIES.

Almost ALL Blue tree's advertised are very small IMPORTED ones. I aquired several groups of large ones last year and have acclimated them and they are breeding now. Only time will tell...

AS FAR AS BREEDER GROUPS GO... IS THERE ANY INTERACTION POTENTIAL?

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Dec 01, 2009 10:11 PM

I don't know but I'm dead set against breeding either hybrids or intergrades so I'll never know...thanks

THANKS TOM, I DO NOT ADVOCATE THAT EITHER. I WANTED TO KNOW HOW THEY INTERACT WITH THEIR KEEPER DURING ROUTINE MANTINANCE AND IF THEY HAVE WARMED UP TO YOU SINCE YOU FIRST AQUIRED THEM...I.E. HUMAN INTERACTION. THANKS AGAIN

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Dec 02, 2009 08:21 AM

Yes they now recognize me as a food source and realize I'm not going to kill them. The pic of the prasinus breeding was taken after discovering them copulating. I then went into the house, retrieved my camera, opened the cage door, and took the pic. In other words they let me share this natural behaviour without being spooked and fleeing. In my opinion when any lizard accepts your prescence without acting in a defensive manner you can interact with them and I'm sure if I wanted there are at least 3 or 4 lizards I could likely pick up and handle if I WISHED TO DO SO. For me handling them is something I have little interest in but I could condition them IF I wished to do so...thanks

Tom, may I ask if you use elevated hides/burrows at all? I think I've noticed there are nest box and soil for them to dig in. Just wondering...

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Dec 02, 2009 01:17 PM

The floor of the cage has a very thin layer of soil with wire underneath to prevent them from digging out. The winter retreat and nest box have a special mixture of dirt 18"-24" deep to nest in. They are slightly elevated but not to a great extent..SEEMS TO BE WORKING WELL SO FAR...
