New to the hognose

Tulasi Dec 01, 2009 07:33 PM

Hi everyone, I'm new here and after a long time of reading figure I'd sign up. I'll be soon receiving a pair of Malagasy giant hognose snakes at work. Doing my research on them I think I would really like to add them to my own personal collection. I can see the more common is I guess the Western hognose, so not sure which kind of hognose I would like. I've looked around but haven't seen to many for sale around, could anyone recommend a good breeder to buy one from?

Hi, welcome to the hog forum.

I know a guy who breeds them, email me & I'll send you his email so you can maybe get on his list for 2010 hatchlings.
They are cool, I think I need some too. I did just get some Madagascan speckleds, theyre pretty cool too.

Brent Bumgardner has some really sweet ones!

Oh, I guess I read that wrong, I thought you were asking about where to find Madagascan hogs, now I see that you were asking about hogs in general. Western hogs (plains, Mexicans, & western morphs) can be found pretty easily in the classifieds. There are a hand full of us working with southern hogs also, & cbb ones can be found in the classifieds every so often. I dont know too much about where to find cbb easterns, but I do remember seeing some nice ones on a website called gradeAreptiles.com

I agree completely with JTcolubrids. He also has some of the best customer service, responds to your emails, snakes are always what he says and a very friendly guy. There is another coming out with his website soon hognosefarm.com and he is also great to deal with.

Welcome to the forum. I think you would enjoy owning Western Hognose. Their small size, docile nature, and downright neat appearance make them my favorite. You won't have any problem finding available hognose. Some of the contributors to this forum are advertising them in the Kingsnake Classifieds right now. Look in the "Other Snake" section. It all depends upon the color morph you desire, and how much you are willing to spend.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have a look around the site to see what people have to sell. As daneby said I'm looking into just the hognose in general. The anaconda morphs I must say are really cool.
