Stock tanks?

elidogs Dec 02, 2009 11:36 AM

Where can I get a stock tank for my monitor? Is there plans on how to build this set up for a svannah monitor? I don't live in farming country so its kind of hard to come across them.

I'm looking for plans for a basic but strong set up nothing fancy.

You can find more info on stock tanks at our FAQ, linked below. You can be as simple or creative as you like. I prefer simple.

As for acquiring the tank, there are online sellers, but shipping is expensive. Try all types of livestock supply, horse and tack, and feed stores.

Robyn I like the style you had for your gila in the picture would that work for a monitor? I think I could use that set up maybe and build the cage on top of the tank when he eventually gets too big for that. One thing I've learned these suckers grow fast. LOL

We use that style, trough with a flat lexan top, for all of our 4 and 6 ft setups.

Tractor stores should carry them, some pets and feed stores will also carry them. There are rubbermaid forms and the other metal ones. There was someone who had made something in his shed. There was just a frame built tightly around it. Maybe some others can chime in

I built this for a dwarf caiman, but if you use substrate instead of water it can work for monitors...

also this, with a big cooler... 4 x 2 ft...

I think I'll defineatly go with the metal ones over the rubbermaid.

"I think I'll defineatly go with the metal ones over the rubbermaid" Look I'm quoting myself. I was trying to reply to sulferboys post but it put it at the bottom of the thread. Oh well.

I think you'd be surprised at just how easy they are to locate. There's probably a feed store within 50-75 miles of you.
