Season's endings..

jhnscrg Dec 02, 2009 06:43 PM

Not a bad season for me in the field. Except, no hots. NOT ONE freaking venemous snake. Not even a baby copperhead.
What was up with that? Anyone else have this happen?

Nope. I did get to see a few blacktails and diamondbacks in Az. this year, and a few DBs down here, one cottonmouth, two corals, but no coppers. It was lean with the drought I think, but it should be good with all the recent rain. When the sun pokes back out for several days I hope to go out and see some things basking near their homes.

Todd,

Its so strange, because I saw a ton of A. contortrix last year ( a couple of pics posted here too) but not one this year. And few Greens as well..
Might be drought related..

I've seen more hots this year then harmless. On one trip to north Florida yeilded a half dozen canebrakes in one day and several pigmies and cottonmouths. In the carolinas saw more timbers and copperheads this year then rat snakes. What is really strange is I hunted for a canebrake in the ealry seventies for about ten years in Florida before I ever found the first live one...now everytime I go there I see them.

I guess you got my luck!
Found the last of this years' DORs yesterday. Poor baby Texas ratsnake.
Its just weird, I've not even seen ANY DOR hots which is what triggered that observation last sentence.
There is always 2010!
