Neurological Issues in Spider's

Tulasi Dec 02, 2009 11:23 PM

My male spider is just about to turn 1. When I first got him, I noticed what was a pretty severe head wobble. He would be climbing up the side of his tank and then fall backwards, his head would almost go into a corkscrew. However for the last few months, it mostly has seemed to stop. It will come and go very slightly, and the head will wobble a bit for feeding. Just wondering if anyone has done any research on this to find out what it might be from, what might cause it or have any info on it at all. From what i do know from other forums and sites of breeders is that it is a trait that seems to be running in the spider line, but nothing else really beyond that. Would love to possibly work to find out what might cause this.

It's a genetic characteristic of the morph-nothing can be done about it (at least until we get in to genetic engineering in a much deeper way). On the bright side, it isn't fatal by any means and your snake will live a long life and be able to breed and eat normally.

The wobble has been seen in other morphs and normals as well it's just a lot more prevalent in Spiders. People in the medical and scientific communities have stated that it isn't likely neurological at all but most likely a hormonal or biological imbalance. IDK. Maybe now that spiders aren't all that valuable some studies will be done - but probably not - I can't see a lot of funding being raised for something that a majority of the community really doesn't mind.
