President Obama want to hear from you

tskinc Dec 03, 2009 02:06 PM

I just heard a comment on the radio from President Obama, I wish I could get the exact words, but the point was - If the government is doing things that hurt your business, please let them know what it is. I recommend that everyone contact the White House and nicely explain how these laws that are in the Senate S 373 and Congress HR 2811, that are based on bad science, will hurt your business and please also explain the impacts that it will have on other companies associated with what we do. This could include companies like UPS, cage suppliers, rodent supplier, rodent food suppliers, bedding suppliers, pet shops, etc. Maybe someone up there will listen. Here is a link for sending an email http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact. This page also has a phone number listed as well as a mailing address. Perhaps doing all three might get their attention.

We just sent them an email hopefully they will read it, it was pretty long message. Everyone needs to take a couple minutes to write them.

How did you email the President? I did a google search and found a couple of different sites. I want to make sure the one I send it to is legit.

If it was from todays speech he was talking about creating job growth and working within the private sector for fresh creative ideas to bolster hiring to aid in economic recover. His "And if there are things that we're doing here in Washington that are inhibiting you, then we want to know about it. " was mainly aimed at large company CEOs but anything is worth a shot.

Be careful of this tyrant some people call their President.
Next thing you know he will be auditing everyone involved in the hobby too.
He needs to pay for his stimulus, socialzed medicine and cap and tax somehow.

zefdin Dec 03, 2009 09:55 PM

All for helping, but the empty suit living @ 1600 is all talk and no action IMHO. Most Presidents (started w/JFK I believe?) speak about what the will do in their first 100 days in office, with this fluff job it has been almost 365 days and all he has accomplished is getting a free Nobel Peace Prize...I challenge any-one to tell me what for???

Good luck with the petition, but dont hold your breath.

Robyn@ProExotics Dec 04, 2009 02:44 PM

So much partisanship today.

Obama has had many accomplishments in his first year, and will likely get historical health care reform pushed through. We are drawing down Iraq, and increasing presence in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, nearly a decade and a few trillion dollars too late.

But to a right wing guy, I don't suppose any argument will suffice, it will always come down to more deflecting bickering nonsense.

Obama has changed our national perception around the planet for the better. He has inspired millions, and indeed gives me hope, instead of pessimism, for the future.

Although I am pessimistic that a political thread will last long in a Ball python forum : )

As enterprising as your businesses are I'm shocked to hear you are for some of the socialistic measures that Obama represents. Ship Your Reptiles, UPS and Fed-Ex wouldn't be profitable if the USPS was as well run as the private companies.

Government is lazy workers gone wild. My view comes as a contractor for community redevelopment projects. I have seen public housing projects with ten women in the office to collect the rent and so forth. What they actually did was tell stories have B-day parties and eat donuts. We would repair houses for people that wouldn't pick up their own trash or even take a bath. They made sure to get a little sod down in the front so the after picture would look good. Ever deal with the IRS, good luck. We have had a silly problem with them for two years, they kept telling me just to pay the $1200 fine and make it easy on everybody. We did nothing wrong, they applied our payments to the wrong year. Can you imagine them running health care.

Robyn@ProExotics Dec 05, 2009 04:58 PM

"Socialistic"? That is a fear mongering term, and silly to use. Our schools, highways, police, fire, emergency services, national parks, those are all "socialistic", under that type of definition.

Can I imagine the government running the health care industry? Sure. Can you imagine what it will be like if something is NOT done? It is a horrible and corrupt system right NOW. Someone has to try and fix it. Knuckleheads on tv hollering about socialism, communism, death panels and birth certificates do not create a solution, just more nonsense, fear, xenophobia and ethnocentricity.

We have been on a path to collapse for many years now. If something drastic is not done, it will come. I can't stick my head in the sand and ignore it just because things are "great for me".

A government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us, blinds us to the overwhelming ability for it to harm us. The Veterans Hospital, the US Post Office, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security...on and on. Whenever the government gets involved where it was never, ever intended to be it is a total fiasco. Building interstate highways and providing for national defense should not be equated with the government taking over and running private businesses and assuming control of our daily lives at every level.

Its easy for the folks with the egalitarian 'socialist lite' attitude to sit around and speak of saving the planet, providing free healthcare (yeah right...hold your wallets taxpayers), save the children, and all that feel good crap. All the while the government begins to assume more and more control over how we live. This is all to clear in the current snake debate where the United States Congress, Senate and President want to dictate to private citizens when, where, how many and IF they can own snakes in the privacy of their own homes...? I dont know about you but I prefer to run my life the way I choose. I do not want or need a little intellectual elite in Washington DC to tell me when I can get a CAT Scan, or whether or not my grandma is too old and should be put down because it makes better economic sense to the socialists and their utopian plan to provide 'free' healthcare to the masses, all on the taxpayers dime. NO THANKS BARACK...and it aint gonna happen either because the American people do not want it.

Shawn Lockhart Dec 05, 2009 09:32 PM

You quite honestly don't have the foggiest clue what you are talking about. You already pay the healthcare for anyone who does not have it. A hospital cannot legally refuse anyone who shows up to the emergency room regardless of their ability to pay. Who do you think pays for them? You! The charges are passed on to you. I would rather have them buy subsidized insurance from the government, notice I said buy, than be paying their bill for free.
This death panel stuff is a load of right wing blowhard crap and does not exist anywhere, in any copy, of any bill.
As far as lazy government workers goes, I work at the Centers for Disease Control and we bust our asses to keep you healthy, even if we don't agree with your politics. Dou you watch the weather on the news? National Weather Service is run by the government. Do you fly on planes? FAA is run by the government.
My guess is that you don't even know what a socialist is, jst regurgitating FOX news baloney.

"A hospital cannot legally refuse anyone who shows up to the emergency room regardless of their ability to pay." ~S.L. 12/05/2009

Great Shawn, I am glad you admit that President Obama demagogues the issue by saying that 40 million Americans cannot get medical treatment. By your own admission they clearly are able to do so.

As far as hospitals and doctors cost shifting the price of treatment of the uninsured onto the backs people who work, pay their bills and have insurance. This is totally different than our government taking over the medical system of this country by political fiat and then dictating what coverage you will be able, or far worse, obligated by law to purchase in order to maintain this new health care arm of the welfare state.

I do not want some bureaucrat deciding when it is time to pull the plug on a loved one because it would be more cost effective, or maybe they do not believe in miracles when I do? You can laugh and say that it is a ' Vast Right Wing Conspiracy', but you need to look no further than the public schools or government subsidized universities to see that when the government funds something, they WILL & DO dictate to their subjects. In the schools they decide what the curriculum will be, right down to what books that can be bought and read from and what topics of discussion are approved or taboo in the classroom. Who honestly thinks there will be no strings attached to some government run health care monstrosity?

Also, I am sure you work very hard, but the CDC and the National Weather Service..those are your shining examples? HA! ROFL...

We do not need the United States government telling us if we can own snakes on our private property. We do not need them telling us how many snakes we can have, when we can sell or breed them either.

Free people in a free country should be able to make these decisions for themselves.

robyn@ProExotics Dec 07, 2009 01:23 PM

What if the strings attached include killing off all of California?!?!?!?

You are right, that WOULD be bad. Oh wait, that won't happen, that is some nonsense, just like "killing grandma".

But through your "logic", it is a possible government conspiracy.

Sending folks through the emergency room for care is exactly what is bankrupting the system. It is not a viable option. Aside from that, it is reactionary care, and not preventative, or health maintenance.

Our citizens are not "free" to get health care in our "free" country. Too many of the have nots do NOT have access to any kind of reasonable health care, much less dental care. THAT is the problem, and a problem of compassion, as well as economics. We must take care of our own citizens. We can fight wars and subsidize giant industries but can't give basic health care for our own people? Come on...

A chicken in every pot, bread and rice for the masses...humm, where have I heard that before? Ohh yeah, that little red book some Chinese fellow wrote awhile back.

How about you be as compassionate with YOUR money as you'd like and let the rest of us decide how compassionate we want to be with ours? Thats the rub of the matter now isnt it? When a few people try and tell all the rest of us what is best for everyone. They make it seem nice by saying its for the sick, or the weak, or (my favorite) for the children. In the end it is the same nonsense where they want big-daddy government to take care of us because we are too stupid to do it ourselves.

Just one question?

If no one amonst us has the capacity to govern ourselves, then who amongst us has the capacity to govern someone else?

The American people are smart enough to see with their own eyes what a similar big government money grab in the name of compassion has become. They see all to clearly that Social Security is going bankrupt and anyone under 60 years of age is losing the money they are forced to contribute hand over fist. Imagine if you could take the 7.5 percent you contribute AND the 7.5 percent your employer is forced to contribute and put 15 percent away on top of your 401K? WOW! You wouldnt even need the US Government to care for you like a baby in a diaper at 65, now would you?

The govenrment shouldnt tell us if we can own snakes in our private homes and the sure as heck shouldnt decide if my doctor can give me an MRI if he recommends it.

robyn@ProExotics Dec 07, 2009 04:43 PM

That is awesome that you have a doctor. And that he has an MRI machine. Awesome!

Get it? : )

We should pay close attention to the well being of the masses, from the problems of land and labour to those of fuel, rice, cooking oil and salt.... All such problems concerning the well being of the masses should be placed on our agenda. We should discuss them, adopt and carry out decisions and check up on the results. We should help the masses to realize that we represent their interests and that our lives are intimately bound up with theirs. We should help them to proceed from these things to an understanding of the higher tasks which we have put forward....To link oneself with the masses, one must act in accordance with the needs and wishes of the masses. All work done for the masses must start from their needs and not from the desire of any individual, however well-intentioned. It often happens that objectively the masses need a certain change, but subjectively they are not yet conscious of the need, not yet willing or determined to make the change. In such cases, we should wait patiently. We should not make the change until, through our work, most of the masses have become conscious of the need and are willing and determined to carry it out. ~ Chairman Mao

While I'm sure the President gets more emails than you could shake a shrub at, every cast has the possibility of hooking a big fish. It's an issue too important to the folks here - and hundreds of others who never come here, but picked up a cute baby python at their local pet shop - to let any opportunity pass.

Thanks for the link!
