I think it's an eastern garter but I just want to make sure,
it has a tan base color w/ black checkering all along it's sides it's under side is tan(I dont think is has cherckering or patching) it's about 7" found in NW. MA
any ideas?

The picture (unfortunately... is to blurry to make a positive ID. But another possibility is Storeria dekay; the Northern brown snake. The tan veneer would tend to favor it over a garter (their bellies are usually greenish or yellowish....). Frank

Just type the latin name in your search engine and there should be sites with photos....though I do rcommend getting a good book on your local snakes. Frank
Agreed. Pic could either be Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis or Storeria dekayi. Andy
