EGG CONTAINER QUESTIONS?

calirepguy Dec 03, 2009 04:26 PM

Hello. I am hoping to have my first BP eggs this season as all is looking well for my 6 adult females to go. I'll be using a Nature's Spirit incubator with a Helix control.

What size should the egg containers be? Should they be sealed or have ventilation holes (if sealed, do they need to be opened periodically for air)? What is the best container? What is the best substrate or should I use the raised light diffuser panels?

Thank you

Kevin

I am breeding the following and have had great lockups. All seems to be proceeding well.

I also use a nature's spirit incubator. For egg boxes I use Sterlite show-Offs from Walmart. They cost me about 3 dollars each. I cut a piece of plastic to fit between the lid and the top of the box. This is a must with this type of box. I do have two small ventilation holes in each box, but they are not needed, as you will undoubtedly be opening the boxes once in a while to check the eggs. I used to use vermiculite, but after losing a clutch of perfectly good eggs, I switched to the light diffuser set up, and it works great.
