Tortoise Carapace leaching white

emysbreeder Dec 03, 2009 11:27 PM

I have seen a thin white line around the carapace scutes before known as a growth ring. It goes away in a few days and is power're, but today I saw a Black Mt.Tortoise of someone's that had a rather heavy white color substance that was thick and it would not rub off like growth rings do. It was only between some of the scutes and appeared to have leached out but I'm not sure.I have never seen this in a Mt.Tortoise and was woundering if anyone knows what causes this. Feed a typical diet. One hint that could matter in its history is that it was treated with Baytril at one point in its life several years back. Its a normal acting adult tortoise. Vic M

I've seen something like this in growth rings when conditions are too dry. It would be interesting to see the pic.
