Black Variable Kingsnakes

samsquanch1972 Dec 06, 2009 09:06 PM

Does any ever see these available anymore, or know of anyone who breeds them? I have only ever scene pictures of them, I guess they were never that popular or maybe went out of fashion in the hobby, but they look stunning in the pictures, plus thayeri are just great snakes in general, so you would think a solid black phase of a great pet snake species would be a mainstay in the hobby. I have been keeping herps for about ten years and solid black thayeri have always been on my wish list, but I have yet to see them at a show or on the classifieds, so any tips greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I only know of a few folks that still work with them...I really don't know why they aren't as popular......For the last few years they have been sold before they hatch....I think they are becoming in more demand and not too many folks working with them.....Lance Benton, Joe Forks, myself and a couple others are working with some....
Here's my Lloyd Lemke line reverse trio that we have to pair up next season......

There was one recently for sale on this site, it's the first time I've seen it offered on here in 2 years. I did see a pair of black thayeri for sale at the white plains show.

My question would be would the offspring of two black thayeri be all black or would they be variable?

I can almost guarantee the offspring from our Black Thayeri will be all melanistic offspring.....

There have been lines out there that will throw normal "hets" from a black to black pairing though......
