My New Poster Child Photo

FGS Dec 07, 2009 08:32 AM

Besides breeding and selling ball pythons and boa constrictors, I also do snake birthday parties and educational programs at schools under the business name of For Goodness Snakes Adventures.

Yesterday I did a party for a set of twin girls, there was around 30 kids there and when I got home I went through my photos and found this prize winner.

The folks that want S-373 to pass should take a look at this.

Here are a couple of other photos I took at the party.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Great post and pics- love it! But, don't those boas and ball pythons squeeze kids to death??!! lol. Probably the best birthday party the kids ever had. I see a animal that doesn't quite fit with the rest- nice Tiliqua.s.intermedia- one of the best pet lizards somebody could have- Northern Blue Tongue Skink!

Shane,

I had a little girl come up to me the other day at a party I was giving and she told me that this was the best day of her life. It's amazing just how comfortable the children are with the snakes.

Everyone loves "Ezra" the Blue Tongue Skink. I plan on adding other animals in the future including the possibilty of a Red Tailed Hawk.

Merry Christams Buddy

Brian,
That's a good thing your doing for the kids but I have to ask did you educate the kids that most reptiles carry Salmonella and that they should wash their hands after holding the animals?

Jeff,

Every single time.

Thanks

Great photos! Without education, what will children know about snakes?? I am afraid to think !

FGS Dec 07, 2009 06:58 PM

Sharon,

The first 15 to 20 minutes of every birthday party is focused on education. The parents and I are always amazed at just how much these kids already know about our cold blooded friends.

Beautiful pics with the children interacting with reptiles and so innocent. It must feel good to earn a buck doing something you love. Keep up the hard work Brian.

I like the pic with the little girl sitting on the steps cuddling the albino ball like it's her baby, how cute is that?

FGS Dec 07, 2009 07:12 PM

Derek,

It's always amazing to watch the transformation as the children and adults begin to touch and handle the snakes. In just a few minutes they go from apprehension to total relaxation, it's pretty cool to witness.

Great pics Brian. How did that skink sneak in there lol,

FGS Dec 07, 2009 07:35 PM

Tim,

My plan is to bring many different kinds of animals into my programs. In the future I plan on having a toriose, a tegu and maybe further down the road a Red Tailed Hawk.

My plan and company motto is to give these children an adventure they will never forget, hence the name of my new business "For Goodness Snakes Adventures".

Good luck with your season.

Great job you are doing sharing your hobby. My only concern is how close the kids faces are to the animals. I don't care how tame a boa or python is and has never bitten etc. etc. but God forbid one of those boas has a bad day and a kid blows in its face the wrong way and it strikes one of them. Perhaps the blue tongue could pick up the odor of food or something on that little boys hand. Could you imagine the damage it could do if it bit him ?. Imagine that boa in the first pic striking the little girl in the face ? I used to bring my animals to schools and do educational displays but the animals were always being handled by me and the head was never in a position to ever possibly do damage. Theres always that chance no matter how tame. If an accident does happen its just fuel for the activists to want to ban them even more. I think what you are doing is great, would just be more cautious.Just my 2 cents.

FGS Dec 07, 2009 06:47 PM

Joe,

I do share your concern.

The animals that I bring have been to about 100 parties in the past three years and none of them have ever bitten anyone. With that being said I am not nieve in thinking that it cannot happen. I know the risk is there, but I'm confident the children are safe. The instructions I give before I allow anyone to handle my animals are very thorough.

Thanks for reminding me that there are always exceptions.

I will be careful.
