Calcium build up around teeth?

SandDog Dec 07, 2009 10:30 AM

I was feeding my little rankins dragon today and noticed some white globs around the outside of his teeth. I was able to remove the soft pieces but there is still what looks like plaque around his teeth. I tried to remove it but it's really hard and I didn't want to hurt him. He was really a good boy and let me hold his mouth open so we could take some pictures. Any ideas what this may be? Thanks.

Looks like mouth rot. Better take him to a vet to get treated.

PHLdyPayne, you were right. I took him to the vet today. He's on a pretty heavy duty treatment plan - an antibiotic injection every 3 days for a total of 10 injections, oral antibiotics and a topical gel in his mouth everyday. Poor guy. Thank you for the good advice!!! The vet said I was doing everything right... he said that they're just really prone to the infection. I wish I had caught it earlier but the prognosis is good and I'll know what to look for in the future. Thanks again.

I don't know if I would say dragons are any more prone to mouth rot than any other reptile...but glad you did take him to a vet and had it confirmed. I am glad to have helped
