Mangrove Copulation - Odd Thing

Below is a pic of one of my pairs copulating. Notice the bulge in the male ABOVE his vent. I have seen this in another male of mine and in other ssp. of Boiga (pics seen on another Forum). Anybody seen this before or have any idea whats going on w/this?

Yep, seen that before when my mangroves were breeding. I asked them what that swelling was and the male said it should be obvious and told me to leave.
