Ingested coconut husk, and concave back?

pidgejen Dec 07, 2009 09:54 PM

Hello,

I fed my female ball tonight in her tank (i usually take her out to feed), and she ended up getting the mouse in the water bowl, and thus the cocunut husk substrate stuck to the mouse. When she was done eating... she had some in her mouth and was having a hard time getting her jaw back realigned. I dipped her in a warm bath, hoping she would open her mouth in the water and flush some of the substrate out of her mouth. Then, I started to just gently rub the sides of her mouth with my thumbs and she started to push on my thumbs like a kitten would a human. She kept just using my hands and thumbs as a source to realign her jaw and in the process I would push more of the substrate out of her mouth. It was really quite beautiful...

My question is... can that conconut husk substrate be harmful to her now that it is in her belly? I've read from the manufacturer (zoo med) that it is not harmful to swallow... but I don't know if I trust them. Does anyone know?

Also, I noticed that when she is curled up under her hid, there is a slight concaveness to her back (near her spine). Does this mean there is something wrong? She has eaten every time I have presenter her food, and she is gaining weight nicely. She is alert and otherwise healthy.

thank you

They digest bone and fur. Coconut husk is no worries.
