wide array of Lampropeltis this year.

shannon brown Dec 08, 2009 02:46 PM

I had a really good year and even though I have stopped working with many sub-species I still produced a wide array across the board.

Here is a pic or two of some of the things I punched out this year.In no particular order here we go.I hope my fellow milk heads enjoy this.

I punched out some killer Blanchardi this year with a couple being spotted to my surprise.

I know you have seen many pics by now of all the cool nelsoni/siniloans I produced also.

knocked out all kinds of locale alterna like this river road.

polyzona.

lots of knoblocki.

some incredible greeri including hypos and even one "super hypo"

campbelli.

lots and lots of cal kings.

lots of mexicana (mex mex and greeri and ruthveni etc...)

oligozona.

lake chapala milks (true arcifera).

conanti.

speckled kings.

then there was all kinds of hondos.I produced well over 100 of them in every morph thats known so far.I am not going to post a ton of pics cause everybody knows what they look like.

black milks.

Thats about it.But in each set there was many morphs and or local's etc.....

L8r Shannon

p.s. I punched out several corns and bulls/gophers as well. But this is just the Lampropeltis stuff.

that speck was off the hook, orange specks well into the sidewalls! I'd get John a male from that line to raise for that big yellah gal he has! Lots of great milks Shannon, and kings! Kudos again!

Thanks,
I like them too. They are Galviston Locales.
I wish they kept that bright red/orange they hatch with. They still look awesome as adults though. Here is the Mom.

Jeff Schofield Dec 08, 2009 10:41 PM

Me Randy, me see too many Hondos in the classifieds, YA HOO!

I'm just sayin, we arent that far away from using those orange wigglers to replace red wigglers at the end of my fishin line. I can see me reelin in a lunker and the damned bait crappin all over on the way back to the boat! I think we should ask DMONG if he's got a pic of that, lol.

DMong Dec 09, 2009 01:25 PM

This photo was taken on Jeff's boat shortly after a local fishing tournament took place in his area. After the judges later found out what he was using for bait, he was disqualified from the competition for using the highly coveted Honduran milksnake as bait. He was also later charged with cruelty to animals, and was later sentenced to clean out all the judges Hondo cages for a period of six months.

YEAH BABY!!!!!!

Very nice critters but my fav is that Speckled King. I never seen one with orange like, is that normal. Killer stuff Shannon

Jason

joecop Dec 08, 2009 08:43 PM

Damn, I wish I wasn't color blind or I might have picked the speckled too!!! Looks like everybody else is and I can't see the colors!!! Argggggg.

shannon brown Dec 09, 2009 11:30 PM

Thanks Jason,
I wouldn't say its normal other than from this one pair of adults I have. But like I was telling Todd, none of the babies have held onto that orange into adulthood.

Looks like you had a great year for sure. That spotted blanchardi is sweet and of course the T+ are personal favorites of mine.

DMong Dec 08, 2009 09:18 PM

Lots of sweet stuff indeed bro!. I just gotta say man, the spotted blanchardi, super hypo greeri, and hypermelanistic arcifera are some of the most mind-blowing specimens to me personally.....WOW!

Sunherp Dec 09, 2009 09:45 AM

First, super nice stuff! Looks like you had a pretty good year, man. I'm partial to the Lago de Chapala, Jalisco arcifera and the rest of the obscure Latin American stuff, but the greeri and alterna caught my eye, too. I'd love to see more of the alterna you produced this year.

Now, on to some questions! Is the conanti in the photo from the Acapulco, Guerrero line? Is the oligozona from the Salina Cruz, Oaxaca intergrade line?

Again, way cool animals. It's always a pleasure to see a big post from you. Keep 'em coming!

shannon brown Dec 09, 2009 11:31 AM

Thanks Cole,

I had a great year with my alterna and punched out 53 babies.I am not sure this is the place to post up a bunch of them though.LOL.....I think I would rather post up 100 pics of hondos just for Jeff.LOL.....

Yes, the oligozona is from the intergrade line.I wish I had a different line.
And yes and no on the conanti. The female I used is a Acapulco but the male I used is un-related to anything in the country and he is real orange. He came from the Philly Zoo a few years ago.

L8r

Sunherp Dec 09, 2009 12:55 PM

Shannon,

I've got some of that line of oligozona critters, too. To me, it's more important that they've got locality data than that they came from the heart of the subspecies' range. Know what I mean? I think they're friggin' awesome. Mind sharing how big your adults are? I suspect they're in the 36-40" range?

-Cole

shannon brown Dec 09, 2009 01:11 PM

Yes, I think that way as well. They are what they are.

My adults are about 36-38 max.pretty small snakes for sure.

I am a fellow "milk head" and I enjoyed that quite a bit.
Especially the spotted Blanchard's, the high-black Lake Chapala, and those orange-belly kings.

Nice work, Shannon!

your top Hondos you've produced this year?

Maybe one or two of each type...you know what I'm sayin'?

Normal

Hypo (Tri-color Hypo)

Anery

Ghost

Pearl

Extreme

Hybino

Extreme Ghost?

if you have time...thanks,
Rusty

Jeff Schofield Dec 09, 2009 05:52 PM

I feel better now

shannon brown Dec 09, 2009 11:35 PM

Rusty,
I did well with #s this year but I really didn't produce any killer hondos to speak of.I was shooting for specific geno types and ended up with tons of ghosts het amels, snows het hypos, hybinos het anery etc....
I did manage to produce three visual pearls but they don't lok any different than any other snows.I did hatch a couple decent extreme hypos and some nice tangerine albinos and hybinos but I struck out on extreme ghosts.
Anyway, I will see what I can come up with to show you but its nothing you haven't seen already.

L8r

RG Dec 10, 2009 07:40 AM

and what's next on your list regarding Hondo breeding?

Pearl to Extreme?

Any other projects?

Thanks,
Rusty
