I'm wondering how much weight I can put in my 50 gal. Accually before the water is added how much rock and other things can I put in there that with the water it would not be too much weight for the tank to hold. Any input on this topic would be appreciated.

Water itself is very heavy, so tanks are designed to hold a lot of weight. I think you could use quite a lot of rocks with no problem. The more likely problem is, what is the aquarium sitting on? Is it perfectly flat and level, and can it support the weight?

Find the weight of water and figure out how much weight 50 gallons is. I'd help but I'm lazy and don't remember if there are 1.49 lbs. of water per liter, gallon, something else, or even if the number 1.49 is remotely accurate at all.

Anyway, remember two things. One, that the weight wouldn't be evenly distributed, and then, two, that the weight would also be placed upon parts of the glass that aren't that sensitive (the bottom of the tank is usually smaller than the sides).

I know it's not much help but I hope at least it will get you going. Good luck and let us know what you figure out.. I know there are a few articles about it on the web, but I just broke a tank the other day, just with water, so I wouldn't push it.
