Just from opening remarks it looks like they are in favor of amending it to the "9"

Looks that way to me also Tosha. Just makes me sick watching and listening to it though.

rdfun Dec 10, 2009 08:59 AM

Looks like amended to the 9 with Senator Inhoffe??? only one No.

kthulhu Dec 10, 2009 09:03 AM

So did they already vote, I missed the begining? And by ammended to include the 9, does this mean only the nine or all pythons plus anacondas and boa constrictors?

harbor reptiles Dec 10, 2009 09:05 AM

just the 9

toshamc Dec 10, 2009 09:04 AM

They amended it "adding the nine" although they discussed "narrowing" the bill it is still very vague whether they are amending it to just the 9 or adding the 9 to the amendment.

Yeah it was kinda confusing. Guess we'll have to wait and see what comes out through USARK

harbor reptiles Dec 10, 2009 09:09 AM

Cardin's ammendment is for just the 9. I spoke to some one at the senate epw yesterday and was told this is how it would play out. Of course i was sceptical .But it appears he was right.

toshamc Dec 10, 2009 09:45 AM

If that is true then they have both bills in the house and senate with the same language and a majority favor - this will fly though quickly. A shame really - I wish we would have done more to keep this a Florida issue.

On a side note to this....did you hear/see when they talked about working to "help" the people affected by this so maybe they can "skin" the animals? What was that? It's early and I'm under the weather but this was like What? What are they talking about?

Tosha did you catch that?

harbor reptiles Dec 10, 2009 09:14 AM

You heard right. Scary isn't it. He's the one that's on our side.

toshamc Dec 10, 2009 09:15 AM

Yeah - I'm not altogether sure as to what he was referring - it seemed to me he was referring to the snake skin trade but as far as I know Lacey Act only applies to live animals so if people wanted to import or trade in snake skins then they still could - IDK.

Yeah it seemed almost as though they would "give you time" to KILL your snakes, skin them and then sell them? to who? a government agency or something. Absolutely stunning. And this is backed by the Humane Society.....haha...ironic and a joke.

toshamc Dec 10, 2009 09:21 AM

For just a brief moment I'd thought they'd heard about the "send a snake skin to the senate" debacle.

Who knows.....was just shocked when they started talking about that. Caught me off guard.

MagickalMorphs Dec 10, 2009 11:27 AM

I don't think they get it that these are PETS. We love them. I don't know about you guys, but I was pretty horrified when I heard about the skins, to me I might as well be told I'd have to skin my cat. It was offensive.

Regardless of what is ultimately passed, we still need to continue to fight.

toshamc Dec 10, 2009 11:35 AM

You are right after I listened to it again - it appears he is basically saying that people should be able to skin their snakes to make up for any financial loss due to the law. It's rather disgusting and offensive.

Wow, who knew the snake skin trade was so alive and well in the States. And here I am trying to breed them for money when I should just be killing and skinning them instead.

rdfun Dec 10, 2009 11:44 AM

Yeah that's pretty much waht I took out of it too. Not to mention that , yes, they are pets and I dare say they wouldn't ask other owners of various pets to kill them to " help ease the financial losses", but how, I mean really, how do they expect this to work. Oh yeah, look in the Yellow Pages, there are hundreds of ads for this. Blew me away. What a concept!

pfan151 Dec 10, 2009 09:17 AM

Where is the list of what the big nine actually are?

LOL, they think the snakes will thrive in virtually all the lower states.

We don't stand a chance on this. It does appears it going to be just the 9, but ugh, they are so misinformed that we've come in on this too little too late.
