PYTHON & BOA BAN

"Meantime, Nelson is working on a new bill to streamline the process for identifying and blocking other harmful invasive species."
He sure streamlined the process with this bill--skip the science, cut right to the bans. I wonder what he and HSUS are planning next? Maybe they'll just try to create a bill to circumvent the whole Lacey Act? Surely pythons and boas are just the tip of the iceberg.
I feel disheartened to say the least.
I just sent emails to the four biggest newspapers in Cali and I informed them of how bad S373 will be to me personally and to society as a whole.
I feel disheartened today, but I pretty much knew that this would happen when the Democrats swept Congress and the White House in 2008. The folks pushing this nonsense are Democrats. The Republicans may not really be our friends, but the Democrats really are our enemies.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
Inhofe was the only Senator who voted against the ban. The other 7 Republicans and 1 Independent voted for the ban. So, the Republicans are as much to blame as the Democrats.
I'm sorry, but that's just nonsense. The people who are pushing this bill are Democrats. If the Democrats didn't control Congress, this stuff wouldn't have momentum. I realize many herpers are Democrats, but if they refuse to understand that their support for that party is helping destroy our hobby, they are in denial.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
Today the Senate Committee on the Environment & Public Works (EPW) held a business meeting on S. 373. Committee Chair Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Ranking Member Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) presided. After brief statements the committee held a mark up session on S. 373, to amend title 18, United States Code, to add constrictor snakes of the species Python genera to the Injurious Wildlife list of the Lacey Act. Senator Inhofe expressed concerns about the bill. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) offered an amendment to limit the scope of the bill to only the 9 snakes addressed in the USGS report on large constrictors. Senator Cardin further agreed to work with Senator Inhofe to improve the bill prior to a vote on the Senate floor. The amendment was passed by voice vote. S373 was then voted out of Committee by voice vote with Senator Inhofe registering a NO vote.
The Democrat amended the bill from the entire genera of Pythons, all 40 species, to limit the ban to just the 9 snakes. I do not want any banned, especially Boa constrictor, but that is the truth. The Democrat saved your ball pythons.
We've expressed our concerns to our Senators- they sided with their contributing special interest groups (USHS). It's time the reptile nation showed the politicians what it means when our government sides with special interest groups instead of the will of the people. I'd like USARK to identify the Senators who did not oppose S.373. I'd like to know who will effectively vote to make it law before the real science is completed.I'd really like to know how many of the 36 Senate seats up for re-election in Nov. 2010 should be targeted by the reptile nation to eliminate- so we can send a very clear message to both parties!
To say the Democrats ar the enemy is an insult to me and every other Democrate in the nation. Choose your words wisely. The HSUS and Bill Nelson do not represent me or anyone else I know.
Agreed. Well said.
They do whether you specifically voted for them or not. I guarantee when the final vote comes in it will follow right down party lines. No need for you to take it personally. Its not as if they have stood for or against anything else they promissed during the elections either. Just remember the ones who turned on you when the next elections come around. There are alot of herpers in Florida and alot of them voted to keep Nelson in office. I know from past experiences involving gun control that he is not to be trusted. Our freedom is the least of his concerns.
With all due respect to my friend wftright, whether Democrat or Republican seems an Ideological argument and neither relevant nor constructive in regard to the issue at hand.
Suffice it to say -- the system is horribly broken. Special interests and money are served. The people are not.
