The bill includes Burmese pythons, northern and southern African pythons, boa constrictors and the yellow anaconda, reticulated python, Deschauensee’s anaconda, green anaconda and Beni anaconda.

Currently, as discussed below, I believe it only bans the import and interstate transportation of these species (exact law to be decided by each state individually). I am unsure about breeding them, regardless of what you do with the young.

The committee discussed giving current owners time to kill our snakes and sell the skins to recoup our losses. Heartfelt of them, really. X^P

It was passed by the Committee, now on to the main Senate floor.

Here's the link to the archived hearing http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Hearings.Home

At about the 26 1/2 minute mark Sen. Cardin clearly states the original bill included all the pythons but that the ammendment will be limited to the 9

It's unbelievable watching these ignorant people sitting there believing their own crap. Imagine how many other laws have been passed based on total falsehoods, lies, propaganda and ulterior motives.

Can't see the President passing a bill that will affect an industry so hard during economic struggles. One battle may have been lost but the war has just begun...

Well lets see Obama is currently pushing Cap and Trade legislation, aka the carbon tax, that will be devestating to businesses and individuals as well. Much of that legislation is being pushed by politicized science on climate change and not through sound following of the very basic principals of the scientific method. I am not saying it isn't worth a try but the disconnect between Washington D.C. and those of us in the real world is a very difficult gap to bridge. They just don't care what the citizens have to say.

But if we can all get a massive letter writing campaing, that includes all of us and every friend and family member that we can recruit maybe we can cause enough noise for them to decide this isn't worth pursuing right now. There are a lot of contencious issues being debated right now and that should play to our advantage if we make enough noise. The letter effort would have to dwarf the solid effort put forth on HR669. I also think people should relate the personal nature of the hobby to each of us as opposed to just a form letter that may be dismissed after the first dozen letters.

The political atmosphere is against us, and I have zero confidence in Obama after all this is the same guy that just said we need to spend our way out of the recession, but that is infact the worst thing you can do in a debt fuelled recession. I do have a lot of confidence in my fellow herpers and there are some great ideas out there and most importantly a sense of unity.

The only other thing I can think of is to try and get support from the "blue dog" dems and the republicans. I have to say I am really proud to be part of the herp community and I hope we can shoot this down and then focus on the 2010 elections because I think we could all use some change that WE can believe in!!!!

They all need to be voted out. It seems that they have nothing better to do then to take away the rights of the people.

Hopefully folks will start waking up and realize that Government is TOTALLY out of control and they all need to get voted out of office. They work for me, not the other way around.

I hate to to use this as an example but... a few years ago there was a South Park episode during the Bush vs Kerry election where they did an episode about voting and the moral of the story was at that level of politics, you're choices of voting are either between a turd sandwich or a giant douche and never has that been more evident in this case. Maybe I don't pay enough attention to politics but it blows my mind that people will listen to such faulty "science" and pass laws and disregard the truth in such a manor as the committee did in this case.
