NEW STRATEGY AGAINST S373! PLEASE READ!

calirepguy Dec 10, 2009 07:51 PM

I realized, as I was doing what now seems like endless calls, faxes and emails, that I was laying out elabortae verbal and written "speeches" to these senators. Now that I have logically explained our case in every way possible, to those who should hear, I am going to switch gears to something that they WILL understand.

I am now going to incessently call/fax/email my state senators (Boxer and Feinstein) and President Obama this:

"Dear Senator or Pres Obama. In regards to bill S373, I have logically explained my (and the whole reptile community's) case in every way possible, to those who should hear, in FULL OPPOSITION TO S373 "THE PYTHON BAN". I am now going to simply inform you that if you do not oppose and vote against bill S373 then you will never, ever receive a single vote from me ever again."

Thank you for you attention to this matter.

Very sincerely,

Hit them where it really hurts. We need to let them know in immense numbers that if they do this, they will never receive votes from us again. They might start to think twice about this if they realize how many people will never vote for them.

I mispelled incessantly and typo'd elaborate. I was going too fast. Please correct my letter if you see any mistakes. I am going to start using it tomorrow morning. I'm gonna fax, call and email it in every day! They'll know my name and voice by heart! They'll say it in their friggin' sleep! They'll wake up screaming "Kevin Winter, Kevin Winter, Kevin Winter"

you just need to add to it that you will also never donate money to their campaigns. that is their other achilles heel.

Good point, thank you. No $ and No votes!

you should also add that you will instead send your votes and money to whoever runs against them, no matter who they are. Just retracting your funding and vote is only half the impact.

In addition to just listing your name, why not also start a "petition" and add the names of other people also.

If you can get these other people to actually sign a piece of paper and then fax that it would show that these aren't just names you are pulling from thin air (or a phone book). Plus, showing that the list is growing every day would also help. Be sure to note not only the current number of signatures but also how many more have signed since the day previous.

Of course, when you email you won't be able to have the same impact since all of the names will have to be typed. The only other way to do it for email would be to scan the petition and send it as an attachment or upload it somewhere and include a link pointing to it. Unfortunately, anything with an attachment is likely to be deleted immediately and a link most likely won't be followed. You can add my name to the list:

Any legislator that votes for this bill (regardless of whether or not it passes) will lose not only my future vote(s) but also any donations to not only their re-election campaigns but also any organizations which decide to donate to that legislator. Any organization or company that provides them with support (monetary or otherwise) will lose any future donations or business from me and my family.

Thank you all for the great input. I do not have the time currently to assemble a petition. Maybe someone that knows how to do it and can do it quickly can help us out?
