Pacman Not Eating, getting thin

jonny166 Sep 18, 2003 06:55 PM

I have had my pacman frog for a little over a year and half now. He has never been a big eater like other peoples frogs seem to be. He seems to go through phases where he eats really good, then won't eat anything for weeks. He has always been pretty thin, but lately he seems really skinny and he hasnt eaten in about 3 weeks again. I keep him in a 10 gallon tank with bed a beast and water bowl. There is a big plant in there he likes to hide under, its about 78 degrees and i mist it once a day. I have tried feeding him large crickets, earth worms, red worms, and goldfish. He only ever eats the crickets or worms tho, and the worms only rarely. He is about 2 and a half inches across in size. I don't know what other info i might need to give but if anyone can give me tips on how to get him to eat better or what i am doing wrong i would love the advice, thanks.

I had a frog just like that. Despite everything I tired, he would not eat. To make a long story short, he died. Some animals, you must remember, are not cut out to live. In nature, they get taken care of early on. In captivity, they live for a while. He could just be a bad feeder. I would take him to a vet though, get him checked out. Sometimes there are underlying causes, like parasites and such. I used to brumate mine to see if that would help, and sometimes it did, but I would not brumate a frog that is already skinny. Good luck. Andy

You could also try raising the temperatures to about 83 degress and see if he's not eating as much because he's not warm enough.

Well he decided to shed today. He is hanging out in his water. Perhaps this will help him come around.

Sorry dude. It happens...happened with mine too. I was trying to tell you not to get your hopes too high. But it wasn't your fault. Some just are meant to survive. Andy
