If we really want to stop S373

perfectpredators Dec 12, 2009 05:09 PM

we have to become jerks unfortunately. The old saying nice guys finish last will happen to us no doubt. i beieve we have to do a sizeable raise for a lobby to show a case that can be placed in front of Senator Nelson and his offices that will depict the dollar power of the industry and high likelihood these dollars will be aggressively redirected against him to assure that this man never holds the office of anykind, if this bill goes into law. folks if you really want to make a difference we cant come in as nice people because only 1 thing motivates politicians well 2 things, but 1 is fear for their jobs. the other thing is all mighty dollar. if we beg and seem unoffensive, this will only embolden their confidence and lessen his willingness to listen and stop the push for this thing. dog eat dog people anyone ever hear of that? we're going to have to cowboy up as well and not just brown nose in order to make this bill to go away.

like the million-man march or any other protests on the hill that have occurred over the decades. OUr cause justifies such action.

If one was organized, i for sure would partake!

A publicized protest in front of Nelson's home office in Florida, or sit-in. Either way, a public show of dissapproval by Florida's own reptile community. Also a show of potential voters against Nelson in his bid for the next election. His rivals should be shoulder to shoulder with them. Marching on DC is not a bad idea, but if his own local voters show up in droves, might put the heat on him. Especially if it's televised.

I couldn't agree more. This is why I insist that USARK takes out a full page ad which attacks Sen. Nelsons character and credibility in every Florida newspaper. That my brothers and sisters, is bringing the heat to these people. This is the language they understand. If USARK needs more cash for this action, let us know. These are the types of things that will stop actions like this bill. Not arguments over what scientist believes in what. Trust me, THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE SCIENCE. ITS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. As it is, USARK is barely covering expenses month to month.

As a community, we really do need to step up to the plate. We also need to be putting pressure on the vendors we use to join USARK as their fate depends heavily on our fate. They should be joining as silver or gold members, in my opinion.

Thank heaven there's guys that agree. Thanks mike! Simply put this is a fight for survival, it's a choice of who's gonna live- you or the other guy...and if you want it to be you, all stops must be pulled. This is war in it's purest form but we're using a pen and not a gun. We must be ruthless, monies are exactly what needs to be disclosed. We must be made aware by usark or pjak or what lobby group is spearheading this, as to what costs could be to, then we take off the gloves and make this a street fight once we know what we all need to chip in. Can anyone help with the costs analysis, etc??

I agree that we need more $$$ to fight for our rights. I disagree that the science does not matter. When it boils down to it , it is the science that will allow us to keep our great hobby. We need the $$ to let our elected officials know that we will vote them out if they ignore sound science.

mike_panic Dec 14, 2009 07:03 AM

I think you may have misunderstood what I am saying. Of course Science matters to our hobby and Science matters to me and it matters to you but trust me when I tell you, it has no bearing on what these politicians want to do which is nothing more than forwarding their agenda. And if we keep wasting time squabbeling(im sure I didnt spell that right) over the fact that this scientist said this and this one said that, we will have lost valuable time and more importantly MONEY. Its like being in a court of law. For every "expert" witness we can produce to say what we want to say, they can produce one or more to counter it. You dont threaten to vote a politician out of office after they have done something you dont agree with, you do it before and then you follow through with. I would venture to say that hal of us who frequent this forums only vote in major elections such as mayoral, presidential and for Governer. THEY KNOW THIS. Although its a SMALL part of what we should be doing, mostly we are wasting our time with letters and emails and phone calls. Senator Nelsons office could care less what Mike Panichi from NY has to say trust me. But he may listen to people calling from Florida who are telling him they will vote him out if he continues with this agenda. We need to put our foot on their necks and press down hard. In my view, this is very simple politics really. THIS IS THE SAD TRUTH....Its just because now.... it involves our true love and livelyhood for some, that we(not me though)woke up and became aware of what DEMOCRATS do every day in our country. So what can be done that will work? You hurt them and get their attention by staying in Florida, taking out full page ads as often as possible in local FL newspapers, you pass out flyers and leaflets to every pet store in Florida and you get yourslef on local TV and radio explaining our cause. We must attack attack attack. Senator Nelson name should be a CURSE WORD by the time we are done. The others will fall into line because they will be afraid they will see their names on the next volly of attacks. TRUST ME

I understand putting pressure on Senators by explaining they'll loose my vote if they vote yes for this S373 legislation

I'm a little curious how focusing so much attention on Senator Nelson will help ??

This is all but out of his hands now,he can't take it back now

Plus I highly doubt he will change his stand on this regardless

Putting this pressure on other states U.S. Senators could work,
but an in person face to face meeting with other States
U.S. senators is necessary for each of us to do

So you can completely address every issue and concern they
raise with well thought out answers

The Senators need to understand this issue ,threats that you'll
not vote for them from such a very small percentage/sector of
their constituents in each state, I don't know....

It can certainly be part of the way we address the issue and
pressure each of our own States U.S. Senators
