Yellow bands with black bellies...

daniel1983 Dec 13, 2009 08:04 AM

So I picked up these two kingsnakes at a reptile show about a month ago. They were labeled "Black Kings", listed as non-feeders, and were only $10 each. I figured what the hell and got a pair.

Since I was getting them established eating, I haven't really even looked at them except to drop in food.

I assume they are Lampropeltis getula nigra, but due to the lack of hatchling photos available online...I really am not 100% sure.

I took them out last night and had a good inspection. I never realized that their bellies are almost solid black....and they aren't squirmy at all.

Can't wait to see these two grow up. Just thought I would share some pictures.

Here is a typical looking Black King(L.g.nigra). There's other genetic influences involved with those two. Certain forms of Eastern king and certain California kings can have very solid black bellies.
