Authorities: Rottweiler mauls, kills Florida toddler

It's a very sad reality of dog ownership...this stuff does happen. It happens with stray dogs but 80 % of the time with family pets. There are stray dogs that killed a Georgia couple a few months ago so they are a problem both as pets and as wild dogs. Are dogs allowed to be imported into the US?

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Authorities say a 20-month-old Florida boy was attacked and killed by a Rottweiler.

Kevin Doll, a Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman, says the toddler was at a home during a party Saturday night when the dog somehow got inside.

The dog then attacked the boy, whose name was not released. People at the house managed to pry the dog off the child, and family members then took him to a nearby hospital. He later died.

Animal control has taken possession of the dog.

Sad story but this happens more often than you think..This IS something that Sen Nelson should be concerned with..

This is just another case where the owner should be liable and not the animal. Same with reptiles. Prosecute the offenders and not the animals. Cars kill more people than animals and guns, maybe we should ban cars as well?

Motorcycles killed how many people before the helmet was invented?...,and then they were made manditory by law in some states,but not all of them.

Hypocrisy is a slippery slope. When positioned on ones self imposed pedestal the world all makes sense as long as everyone agrees with you. Nelson like many assume too much and allow their egos to pass judgment instead of taking into account that it is possible they might not know everything and perhaps, just perhaps they might be wrong. Finger pointers and trouble makers are boring and simplistic. None the less they do cause a lot of frustration for many. Witch hunts, TV fundamental preachers and politicians to name a few would rather stick their nose in other peoples business instead of minding their own. Where is the honor in self righteousness?
