saagbay Dec 13, 2009 07:21 PM

only slightly off topic, but i am requesting for everyone to post pictures of their cages, set-ups, racks, herp rooms, facilities, ect...

I am curious to see who uses what to house their snakes in and how people set up herp rooms

so you ahve all seen my cages but im gonna put them up again anyways.

i Built these cages last summer, they are made out of 3/4" maple melamine. i heat them using 4" 6watt heat tape that is controlled with a dimmer switch, and also have a 2foot section a rope light in each. the doors are 1/4" plexi-glass that sit in a track mounted to the front, they can be slid to the side or lifted out. i line each cage with with indented craft paper on top of hand towels for absorbency. regular sweater or shoe boxes as hides and line them also with towels. for my rainbows i mist the hide towles before they go in and change them out every 3-4 day to prevent mold growth. dirty towels get washed in the washer with detergent and bleach. i have this set up in the spare bedroom / office / snake room..... mainly because there is no other place in my little house for them to go.

i also have this that i built but havent sold yet, and if i dont sell it im probably going to end up keeping it and getiing a Jungle Carpet to put in there

Well, I don't have a herp room, it's actually a herp closet.

Mendoza is in the top cage, Jamba is in the right half of the middle cage, and Jack is the ****head in the bottom cage that looks ransacked. I think it's time for me to start using craft paper rather than paper towels. The little tank on the top right is for the feeder anoles for Jamba.

thank you Ed thats exactly what i wanted. i think thats pretty cool having them tucked in out of the way, looks like a perfect fit plus storage of supplies.

nice cages too are they boaphile?

how about lighting, during they day do you keep that door open for natural light or does it stay shut. i dont know for sure, but i would imagine that being dark all the time would affect them somehow

thanks for the post! i was really starting to think i wasnt gonna get anything which was actually kinda surprising, i figured with the forum being a little slow i would have had more.

i see it as the reptiles is only half of "keeping reptiles" and the other half is the keeping which is just as important. everyone on this forum keeps reptiles and we have all seen the animals so i though it would be fun to see the other half, the "keeping" part

Hey Stephen,

Yeah, forum seems very slow. Probably for a few reasons, but hopefully it's only temporary. Used to be a lot of fun here.

Anyway, to answer your questions, the two larger cages are AP, and the smaller one is Reptile Basics.

Regarding light, I put the (flourescent) closet light on during the day and also keep the door open so some natural sunlight gets in. There's a window on the other side of the room across from the closet.

Thanks and happy holidays,
Ed
