Wild Red Rat (AKA Corn)

RG Dec 14, 2009 09:31 AM

I didn't have my camera with me when I saw this large guy crossing a dirt road, so I did my best with my phone.

I caught him with out ANY trouble, he didn't even try to bite! What a great tame wild snake!

I was in the process of getting food (mice) so I offered him one for the road...but he was too freaked out to eat...oh well, at least I tried to give him a free meal!

Check out the color...very wash out. Found near I-95, south of Valkaria, Fl.

That's only about 6 or 7 miles from where I found this pretty girl I have off of extreme western Malabar Rd. She was found at the end of a branch on an orange tree across the street from where I used to live. I've seen several real nice looking DOR's out that way in the past too. It's always very sad to see these animals dead.

Nice find buddy!

Very pretty. Around here (mid-TN) I only see the black rats -- not nearly so photogenic!

Very cool find. I think that would definitely make my day!! Pretty easy to find Texas rats road cruising, but corn poor here in South Louisiana where I road cruise sometimes.

Nice find, Rusty.
I'm "stuck" up here in ky, thought i'd be spending part of this month in florida, but it was not to be. i'll live vicariously with your post! ( I DID find a 3 1/2" ravine salamander in my yard last month. Talk about excitement...) It's even too cold for golf!
