Can anyone of you pit fans suggest a good, concise book on pits? I remember there was a pet publication by W.P. Mara at one time, but was wondering if there was something similar. Basically I am looking for something that covers the species and subspecies/ranges/localities fairly well, and possibly gets a bit more involved in specific husbandry requirements for the species/subspecies.

Stull's 1940 work, "Variations and Relationships in the Snakes of the Genus Pituophis" remains the best overall work on this genus. For any questions on husbandry, you can probably get all that you need on this forum; fire away!
Dieter Hirschkorn (www.pituophis.de) and Bernd Skubowius (www.pinesnake.de) are currently working on a Pituophis monograph. Should be out early 2010.
