"Time to kill and skin our snakes"?

EvilMorphgod Dec 16, 2009 04:28 PM

Florida's senator Bill Nelson says that they would give us time to kill and skin our pet pythons!!!!!!

YoSemite Sam would say "Easy stomach, Easy......" and then I think he would shoot him!

Ok, imagine the OUTRAGE if he said something like this to fancy dog breeders.... You know, the ones that we see on TV at the dog shows....

"We will give you time to kill your dogs before we make them illegal. Don't worry, your canine pelts will keep people warm and make SNAZZY FUR COATS!"

Just imagine what the general soft and furry public would say!

These people do not get that these snakes are the same kind of thing to us. They have personalities, they are not some monkey wrench you pull out of a tool box.

I will tell you cats and dogs are far more dangerous to our environment and to us than any of our HERPS!!

Here's a video of the hearing. The part where he speaks of giving us time to skin our animals is at 40:25.

Supposedly he's referring to the fashion industry, but I hear no mention of that industry in this video. Do you?

From what I have been told and according to property rights laws...the government has to pay owners for their personal property that this bill affects. If they take away our ability to sell the animals they have to pay you for them...again from what I have been told by an attorney so someone correct me if I am wrong.

So would they rather have us get $100.00 for an adult Golden Child Retic skin or pay an owner $25,000.00 for the animal?

Anyone know about this law?

That was Senator Inhofe not Senator Nelson that made a a statement regarding skins in the video.

I was wondering if anyone had proof that Senator Nelson made the comment that Kevin posted?

Thanks
Brent

Yeah as far as I know Nelson hasn't said anything about skins. Andrew Wyatt has said that the comment was not made about our pet snakes but about the fashion/skin industry being able to continue to utilize skins. But (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) didn't he say this was to help alleviate losses for people who owned these animals prior to the bill? That, to me, sounds like he is talking about our pet snakes. Although it would be kind of interesting to see how they are going to keep people from crossing state lines wearin their snake skin boots, belts, handbags, wallets, etc.
