When you bred a very young male did he

eat during breeding? Im thinking about breeding A son back to his mom this season to try and prove him out. He is about 300 grams and I have not checked for plugs yet as I do not want to try to soon. So my real question is how long did you leave them together? How many times did you try putting a less than year old 400 gram male to a female? I want to try him but do not want to stress him to much or put him off food, He eats phenomenal now by the way and will wait if it does not "feel" right but a second or fifth opinion on this.

Like you probably know many people say 600 grams for males to breed. I have heard of people breeding males in the 300-400 gram range. I say just keep an eye on the snake. If he wants to breed he will breed. If he locks up for a few days remove him and feed him. If he eats and doesn't seem to loose weight great, throw him in again. If he doesn't eat you might want to be concerned about over working him. I had a male in the 500 gram range breed for me and he ate through the entire season and was fine. I think it just comes down to knowing your animal and keeping a close eye on him.

I definitely agree with just keeping an eye on him and following whatever does "feel" right. I have a 400 gram male Fire that eats perfectly. I've been trying him with females for about a month with no luck. Last night I found him locked with a female Cinny, so he finally got it. Just keep at it and have fun. That's what this is all about, right?
