Boa Ban...Back up plans?

grooter2 Dec 17, 2009 09:09 AM

I was hesitant about posting this at first because I know how sensitive people are on this matter, as so am I.

Not trying to be pessimistic, but if the boa ban does go into affect and all boas are illegal in the new year, what are people's back up plans that own dozens of boas? It will be hard to sell them in the States if they are illegal to own.

Is anyone prepared if they are banned? I know shipping to Canada is expensive but will breeders in the states try to sell to Canada?

I will just keep mine.
To my understanding the ban will not make boas illegal. Just that one cannot import, export, or take accross state lines. So selling them into canada would be illegal. Though Im not sure how it works if you were a canada resident and you wanted to bring 'your' animals from the US over to Canada.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought. I guess I mistook what people meant when they said they will have to get rid of all their boas and that they would be illegal to own. I don't think the ban would go that far too completely illegalize the keeping of boas in the US.

Making them illegal to own will be the HSUS next step if this bill goes through.

We can NOT sit back and allow this to happen. The HSUS will never stop if they're gaining ground.

Also, the other two posters are correct, this bill only makes it a felony to sell, transport, or ship these animals across state lines. Keeping them, breeding them, and selling and transporting within a state will still be legal.

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

The way I understand it from another forum it would only be illegal to transport across state lines. Would still be legal to produce, sell and ship within your state.

They won't Be Illegal to Own !!!

This legislation now amended to "the Big 9" species of snakes
would be added to the Lacey Act,which would, in effect, ban
all importation, interstate transport,
interstate sale or trade of these snakes.

In State sale and ownership are not affected
